and the livin's easy

Aah, summer. I've been waiting for you. With your warm days and sunny nights, you are just what I need in my life. Skirts and flip-flops, sunscreen and tank tops. Barbeques and patios, ice cream and popsicles. There is just so much for me to love. It may not feel like summer where I am right now but just knowing that summer is officially here is enough to get me giddy for what’s to come.
Summer has always been my favourite season, and today, it’s official arrival, my favourite day of the year. I don’t know if it is because summer meant no school or if it’s because the beach is my favourite place to be but I have always loved the sun kissed season in the middle of the year. There has always been something so appealing about putting away any jackets, leaving the layers at home, and taking in the happy sounds and salty smells of summer. I was fortunate enough to spend several summers growing up on the south coast of Maine, a few blocks away from the beach, and I can still remember the short bike ride down the street, bathing suit on and towel in hand, ready to spend several hours soaking in the sun and splashing in the ocean. Days seemed endless as we would find the perfect place for our beach blankets and let out toes tickle their way into the squishy sand. We’d jump waves, search for starfish and let the water carry us in to shore. We’d eat fresh snap peas from the market and chew on taffy from the corner store. We’d play catch and do cartwheels; we’d run races and build sandcastles. We’d be exhausted by the end of the day but anxious to return and do it all over again. Summer makes me smile. The good memories and sunny days seem to make me happier once the season has arrived. I’m more comfortable in my sunglasses and sandals than boots and big coats. I crave ice cream and lemonade and long days in the heat. It may not be as carefree as when I was young but summer relaxes me and refreshes me. It’s fun in the sun…and for me, it doesn’t get much better.
Thanks for coming, summer. I’m so glad you’re here.

Do you like summer? What’s your favourite summer memory?

If you were from my hometown, you'd feel totally different about Summer. Thirty+ days of 100+ degree weather...it can be pretty miserable.

Bakersfield, CA, one season city.

But Maine? I bet summer is PARADISE up there!

haha i'm with crystle - i love the lazy summer days and the "thought" of summer but in texas it's just too dang hot. it's already been over 100 degrees more than i'd like to admit! YIKES! i wish i could truly enjoy the season somewhere that it's tolerable to be outside!

that being said, my favorite summer memory is from when i grew up in louisiana, we would go to the river nearly every weekend - ski, kneeboard, swim, catch crab, cook and eat to our heart's content :) your summer memories sound divine!!

I'm afraid I'm with the other commentors - summer in Phoenix is brutal. It is a time we stay indoors and hide. I have wonderful childhood memories of summer even though they were spent here as well. Felt like we spent the entire 3 months in the pool :)
I can imagine the summer you describe and it sounds magical.

I love summer too, but even more so because I am a teacher and don't have to work:) I just spent the last few hours reading a book on my balcony!

I just LOVE your photos! I just enjoy sunshine no matter what season it comes. My favorite summer memories are going to the lake with a picnic and jumping in the water with full speed. :)

Oh, I love summer! I have an August birthday, so the summer months are hard to resist! It's suddenly quite warm in SF, so I finally have an excuse to eat popsicles and sip rosé!

Love LOVE Summer!! Even though I work, every weekend feels like a vacation:) Favorite memory...my parents have a "summer house" in Price Edward Island Canada and as a child we would spend every summer there...middle of nowhere with nothing but the ocean. Absolutely loved it!!

Thanks for dropping by! I love summer too. Its too bad I don't live by the beach...the closest thing to a beach here is our polluted Lake Ontario. LOL.

It's nice to hear someone express their feelings about their favorite season so eloquently. I tried to visualize what you were saying, with the squishy sand between your toes, and looking for starfish. But, alas, all I could think about was how hot it must have been in all that hot sand!! LOL As you can probably tell from that comment, summer is not my favorite season. It's alright! But Fall/Autumn is my season! I won't get into why....now! ^_^ I'll let you have your glorious summer! Enjoy it!!

Happy first day of summer! Well, second day now, technically. I think spring and fall might be my favorite seasons as far as the weather is concerned but I love the lazy days of summer. And I think I've got some good ones ahead of me.

Summer and I have a love/hate relationship. I love it until it gets to about 90 or so. And I dislike the humidity. But I love summer activitees like taking the dog for long walks, going to the drive-in, barbequeing. That I love.

These photos make me happy! I love everything about summer, and I'm heading up north this weekend so I can't wait to be out on a lake with a cold drink in my hand, soaking up the sun! Thanks for reminding me of that :)

Summer is the best, right!? It's so cold in Chicago that I've grown to really love summer more than ever. So I'm glad to be moving back to an area that has hot summers and I'll have a yard and things to enjoy it with. I love love love going on walks or drives at dusk in the summer time.

maine! my dad used to live in maine, so during college i lived there for a couple summers. he lived in downtown bangor, but we would take weekly drives over to arcadia national park for hikes and relaxing on the "beach." those are definitely some happy memories for me.

I absolutely love summer! My favorite part of summer is going to the pool all day and sometimes the beach. That is the benefit of living in San Diego. As a child I remember going to summer camp and loving it!! Have a great Summer Friday!!

The image you painted in my head of the summers you spent in Maine sounds wonderful. It doesn't quite feel like summer here this week... it's been pretty lousy out. Overcast or thundering. But, I don't really mind because our pool is a complete wreck right now. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks it gets fixed, and the weather decides to get more summer-like!

My favourite summer memory is just spending time up at my cottage! I went every year up until I was 16 (and we sold it, bummer!) and I just loved it up there.

I love how the day seems so long in the summer :) I stay motivated and happier longer if that makes any sense! hehe xo

My thoughts exactly! I'm wishing it felt more like summer here though. It's warm, but overcast and sprinkling! xo
