happy birthday shoes

Today is my husband’s birthday. Happy birthday to my baby, my best friend, my actor, my comedian, my chef, my salesman, my partner in crime, my pillow and my favourite face to come home to after a day away at work. His birthday is one of my favourite days of the year because it gives me a reason to celebrate having him in my life and reminisce about all the ways he makes me smile – like how he hates to wear socks and throws them off every single day into the exact same spot by the fireplace. Or the way he spoils all the sad parts in movies with a silly joke or a ridiculous comment. I love the look on his face when he knows he’s eaten one too many sweet treats or shouldn’t have had that second helping. And I love how he gets as giddy as little kids do when it comes to birthdays, Christmas or opening presents.
This year, I got lucky and knew my guy really wanted to improve his golf game so some lessons for the links were the obvious birthday gift of choice. However, husbands, fathers, brothers, and boys in general always seem to stump me when it comes to buying presents. What do you get for someone who doesn’t accessorize or beautify, doesn’t care about cute creations or pretty pillows and certainly wouldn’t want a new book or piece of artwork? I know not all men are the same but my dad’s tie collection grows with each celebration and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind a surprise every once and a while. And even though my husband says he’d always be happy with tools or electronics, what do I really know about either of those? In my opinion, a wrench doesn’t really say I love you and I’m so happy to be celebrating with you. If any guy in my life mentions something he sorta, kinda, might want, I’ve got to write it down because chances are, that’s what they’re going to be ripping the wrapping paper off of when it comes time to celebrate their special day. Thankfully, my birthday boy’s memory (or lack there of!) seems to save me and his suggestions for gifts easily become surprises! Thanks, babe...and happy birthday!

What do you buy for the guys in your life? Do you find it easier to shop for men or women?

Ohhh that is so sweet...Happy Birthday to your hubby!!! I love those photos...sooo cool!
I usually ask Balazs a few weeks before his birthday to give me a few ideas and he always does....and then its easy to choose. I also make sure to add an element of surprise to it all:)

i used to find it easier to shop for women, until i realized what you did & started writing things down whenever anyone mentioned something they liked.

if i keep on top of it throughout the year than its really fun, not stressful, to give gifts.

i love how you described your relationship w/ your husband, it is beautiful :)

enjoy his birthday ;)

happy birthday to him!!!!

gifts - it's either baseball tickets, a watch, or something techy .. my boyfriend is actually hard to buy for - but he also never wants anything - so that's kinda' good!

PS PASS IT ON! --> GIVE-AWAY going on NOW! - 2 necklaces = 2 winners!

Happy belated to your hubby! This is such a sweet post. Hope you guys had a fabulous time.

As for gift buying, I'm definitely better buying for girls. The men in my life are impossible! :)

Women are way easier to shop for, definitely. My hubby loves books, so if I know of one that he wants I will try to find it. He also loves electronics but he gets it when he needs it. So, buying for him is really difficult. A gift certificate at one of the local Golf Courses would be great, only his birthday is in January and the snow does not clear the links until May usuall...so that leaves me in a real dilemna. I feel your pain.
Thanks for coming by my blog, the falls that I showed was the Whatcom Falls, I think, you go up the highway from Sumas to get there. I hope you find it, it is definitely worth the trip!

For me - in general men are much harder to shop for then women but I have a few women in my life that are not easy to find just the right gift for. I wanted to come by and say thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I'm glad I came by here and can wish your hubby a happy birthday. My husband and I both just celebrated ours too!

happy birthday to your hubs!!!

david likes one fine quality thing instead of lots of littler things... like a nice jacket or nice shoes.

My hubby likes a good piece of meat. No seriously, I buy him a leg of lamb and cook a nice dinner for him and that usually does the trick. My Dad and Bro like me to paint them pictures. :)

I usually find it easier to buy gifts for women actually.

Happy Birthday to your Hubby!! The photos are great.

HBD to the hubby! I find it easier to shop for women...so much to choose from and just a bit more fun. I guess I understand women more because I am one. For my bf? It can get tough at times. And he's such a great gift giver that I pressure myself unnecessarily. Oy

Usually I know there's something he's been wanting - clothing or shoes or *gasp* a video game =-)

Happy Birthday to your husband! When my boyfriend and I first started dating it was easy to buy presents, but now that we've been together for so long I feel like I've run out of options! Now we tend to forgo gifts and just do cool outings for special occasions like go to a really special restaurant or see a Broadway show or concert. Lately we both prefer "experience" type gifts as opposed to more stuff. Your golf lessons sound like an ideal gift!
