imagine the freedom

I don’t think I’m alone when I tell you that I’ve always dreamed of winning the lottery. Don’t get me wrong, I put a lot of value on working hard for what you want but wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about money for a while? Or for the rest of your life? There have been several stories in the news recently about lottery winners who have won more than once and I can’t help but picture myself accepting that oversized cheque with open arms.
Every so often, there seems to be a conversation about what I would do if I held the winning ticket. Sometimes I dream about being sensible – putting my money away for my future children, for retirement, for a rainy day; giving money to my family so my brother can pay off his law school loans, my sister can get a place of her own while she goes to school, my parents can take the trips they’ve always dreamed of; and the long list of charities that would be deserving of donations seems to grow along with the amount of money I dream of winning. And other times, I dream of all the luxuries that I would splurge on...spending serious amounts of cash on silly purchases. A shopping spree would certainly be first on the list along with beautiful houses in all the holiday spots I dream of visiting and enough shoes to fill the dream closet I’ll one day build. My list of material possessions and purchases seems to grow along with the rising jackpot. I’m not holding my breath that my bank account will rise from the few figures it’s at now to the eight figures I’m currently hoping for (buying tickets would help!) but a girl can dream, right?! Most of all, I want to win the lottery to just live life. To experience all there is to experience without the limitations of my bank account. To conquer all my fears and achieve all my dreams without worrying about where the funds will come from. To have the time and money to just be would be living the life of luxury I dream of.

What would you do with your winnings? Do you buy lottery tickets?

I can't believe that people win more than once, that is just crazy cakes. I don't even know what i would do - definitely a shopping spree :) I'd throw the budget out the window!

My parents buy them religiously and haven't won yet. I don't buy them but, like you, have thought about it and the possibilities it would bring if I won.

Honestly, I'm with you on this one - would love to win to experience all there is to experience without the limitations of a bank account (very nicely put!). I'll keep my fingers crossed for a win (for you and me)! :)

I would buy a house and decorate it from top to bottom. God, that'd be fun.

I think about that a lot too. Like you said, the freedom would be incredible! To just do what you wanted and not have to worry. I'd definitely buy homes for myself and my loved ones, travel around the world, and donate a lot to cancer research (don't we all know too many people who've been affected?) After that... not sure. It's fun to think about though!

What a fun blog and great idea to ponder...I think I would give a portion of it to starting my own children's charity foundation, part to pay back my extraordinary parents and a bit for me to have fun with and buy a house! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by my site and for your really nice comment...glad to find another non-phone liker!

I plan a lot of my life around the winning the lottery... One major problem is that I don't actually play it! I really should start. I would just like the freedom to pursue the things I love without having to worry about money.

I dont buy lottery tickets, but my dad does! He has already said he'll give each of us kids a million dollars! So i'll let him spend his money, and help spend the profits :)

ha ha!

I have bought the odd ticket here and there, but honestly I have not dreamed of winning for a long time. Such a great thought though!!

My parents buy lottery tickets all the time but they've never won. They always say if they win, I can go to any school I like and they can build a house for their retirement.

Like you, I think winning a lottery ticket will allow me to really enjoy life without worrying about financial limits. I'd travel the world, go to grad school, help out my family and donate some to charity.

I've never bought a lottery ticket, but seriously, if people are winning twice, maybe I need to reconsider! I'd love to quit my job - at least for the short term - and just give in to my inner beach bum and my wanderlust...this is a great question :)

I am an idiot when it comes to this, I dream about winning buy I don't buy tickets! How stupid is that?
But after reading this post I'll at least try to buy a ticket every month :)

My dream house would be top of the list for sure. From then i'd probably just go crazy and buy a boat or something...
I was just talking to my friend about winning the lottery and how some of these wins are just ridiculous! I mean Euromillions was giving away 84 million pounds the other week!!! No one could possibly spend that much money!! I think i'd struggle to spend 2 million never mind 84.
Still, I would never complain if I DID have 84 million :P

my husband and i often dream about winning the lotto...however we don't normally buy tickets, so i guess that's our problem! ha! i think about what it would be like to spend a weekend together not worrying about work, bills, how much dinner is going to cost, or the next time we can afford to visit our families. that would be amazing :)

oh not to mention the lavish things i would buy!

I don't buy them, I just don't believe I have that kind of luck, but may be if I buy one w/ a different perspective I might get lucky. I would travel all over the world, buy a farm & support some charities.

Thanks for your comment!

I would travel to Paris and live there for a while. Its my dream to go there and learn about my heritage and see some of my relatives. I love this post and what you have to say in it. my favorite quote

"To conquer all my fears and achieve all my dreams without worrying about where the funds will come from. To have the time and money to just be would be living the life of luxury I dream of."
