nice to meet you

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner and celebrations of love in full swing, it seems only appropriate to reflect on our relationships and how we got to where we are. Just like any relationship, love has to begin somewhere. Whether it’s a nerve wracking blind date, a chance encounter in a coffee shop or a childhood play date turned perfect partner, everyone has a story. Some stories are romantic, the kind that make your heart melt, others funny and maybe even a little embarrassing. Some are stories of unexpected introductions while others are perfectly planned proposals. When I look back at the people who mean the most to me in my life, it makes me smile to think of the first time we were face to face.
I love hearing about how people met. I think there’s something so sweet that comes with going back to the beginning and recalling your earliest memories. And the best part is that everyone really does have a story. Even if you can’t remember it perfectly or it wasn’t picture perfect, meeting someone for the first time can turn out to be a very special thing.

My husband and I definitely do not have the most romantic how-we-met story. We met during our first year of university, where his party animal ways had begun to make a name for himself. We were first introduced by a mutual friend and I ever-so-sweetly (okay, maybe it was more stand-offish than sweet!) said “I’ve heard about you…” Nice, right? Calling someone out with the first words you ever say to them? Probably not the best way to make friends (or find a husband!) and pretty out of character for me but it was enough to convince him that I was worth getting to know and it wasn’t long before we became best buds. It may not be a romantic story but it’s our story…and, especially because I can’t change it, I’ve learned to embrace it…even if I’m a bit embarrassed about being so blunt with him! In the end though, no matter how we met, I couldn’t be happier that we did.

How did you meet your love? Or closest friend? Know anyone with a great story?

I met my husband at a wedding - I was a bridesmaid and he was a groomsman! The rest is history:)

Bryan & I don't have a very romantic how-we-met story either. We were introduced by my brother, in the driveway of a get together. lol

What a great subject...I was 12 years old, and very "endowed" for my age. I was just new to Massachusetts, having come from Georgia with my father. I didn't see my husband, but he saw me!!! As he came around a corner he saw "the girls"! LOL He made a complete nuisance of himself from then on...befriending everyone in my family as I totally ignored him. Long story short, his persistence paid off! ^_^ We're now married almost 29 years, and have actually been together for almost 34. He has been my best friend from day one!!...Great post!

Oh God, the way John and I met is mortifying! He came with some of my friends to help me move into my dorm room sophomore year, and we both practically drooled on each other. He ended up carrying several boxed of my labeled unmentionables, and it was lust at first sight!

I met my husband at work. We were friends (or so I thought) for over a year before I realized I might actually be in love with him - he was smitten from day one and I had no idea :) Funny though, we soon discovered our paths had been crossing for years and we just never noticed.

love the love post :)
I met my hub at a mutual friends bday/ camping trip. I was in my bathing suit the whole weekend and didn't pay attention to him until he needed a ride back and I had room in my car for one more. the second we stopped and he went in to the gas station (after offering to pay for my gas!) I called my mom and told her I was going to marry him.

all these comments made me smile so much (:

i met my boyfriend off the internet. i almost liked him right off the bat, and pursued him relentlessly before he finally gave in and went out with me on a "date" (we went hiking, so it wasn't really a date date per se).

the rest is, well, a pretty long story, so i'll just say that we're now happily together ♥

Cute :)))

My husband and I first met through a mutual friend. She set us up but didn't tell us. Unfortunately, when we picked him up he was very drunk. The night was awful. I was trying to move past that scene....and "those" guys.

But, then the second time we met he was super charming, flirty, and nothing but upstanding. So glad that my first impression was the WRONG impression :)

Here's a little more on our story: http://twobuerglers.blogspot.com/p/about-us.html

I met Mr. Starlight in high school while I was dating his friend. I didn't like him at first but after knowing him better I fell in love without even knowing it.

Hahah that's a cute story! Sometimes calling someone out can set people straight :)

We met in first grade and were best friends until we started dating at 14. Been together ever since...24 years later. I married my best friend :)

I love hearing about how people met. And I think that it's great that you met your husband when you were being real and he liked that!

I met my husband while sitting on my porch. He was friends with my neighbour and came over one night...and then he kept coming over lol Never did get rid of him.

i love this! it's definitely heart-warming to remember the first few days with your love or best friends. to think about how it all started, where you are now, and everything in between is just beautiful.

i met my husband way back in college. the first words he ever spoke to me were "oh hey, a bunch of us are going swing dancing this weekend if you want to come." he was interested in another girl and i was interested in his roommate. funny thing is, all four of us went our separate ways for years, but now i'm married to him and that girl he was interested in is married to his roommate that i had liked.

life is a very funny thing.

I think the phrase you used was very honest. My Billie was my brother's friend, then we became best buds too. He went away for the holidays with his family & I missed him so so much, more than the usual best pals miss. I was in bed with fever & sent him a really cheesy email, he came back & a month later, he tried to tell his feelings for me, while we where snaking a whole pound of grapes, he had an asthma attack but we manage to tell how we felt for each other & kissed. We where in the car while my brother was in the house sneaking through the window. We ate all the grapes & our tummy ached the next full day, so every time we have grapes we remember how we fell for each other. Ohhh love, it rocks!

I think the way you two met is sort of adorable - I like the sort of untypical stories I guess....

Hey! I found you on 20sb :) I've scanned back through your blog a bit and it seems fun, so I'm a new follower.

My husband and I don't have a super romantic how-we-met story either. We technically went to the same school for 2 years during middle school (my 6th and 7th grade years, his 7th and 8th grade years) and then we went to the same high school for a couple years as well. However, I didn't actually officially "meet" him until I was a junior and he was a senior...and then we were introduced by my boyfriend at the time. Who happened to be his best friend. ;o)

Of course, they fell out of touch after high school and we didn't even start dating until 8+ years after I graduated/9+ years after he graduated, but still...haha.

My ex boyfriend and I met in astrophysics class. It was so perfect and geeky and magical -- until it ended. (I'm ok with it though.)

And that necklace! Someone gave me one just like it recently. It's so dainty and pretty.

My husband and I actually had no choice but to meet.

My dad and his dad were college roommates at Auburn University way back when.

He and his family relocated to the next state over but every year growing up his family would make a point to spend a weekend with my family.

I always thought he was soooo cute and probably from age 8 to 11 I would give him a note as he was leaving declaring my love. (I was a little sassy as a child)

But needless to say, we continued to be friends and we both eventually both ended up attending Auburn and that's where we fell in love.

It worked out well because our families were already such great friends and now we are all officially familY!!

Oh and thanks for the comment over on my blog!
