an a for effort

{via}
I spent the better part of my day today talking about how great I am. Yes, you heard me right, how great I am. It sounds like a weird thing to say, doesn’t it?! But it’s the truth and truthfully, I feel weird about it. It’s the end of my company’s year and with the end of the calendar year coming up quickly, it meant it was time for my annual performance review. That meant my morning was spent analyzing all that I’ve accomplished throughout the year and finding an abundance of adjectives for saying I’m awesome. I’ve got to say that it wasn’t one of my favourite things I’ve been asked to do at work. Sure, organizing business cards or sending out a large mailout aren’t glamorous assignments but having to talk about all the wonderful, amazing, beneficial things I’ve brought to my company this year made me feel more awkward than I anticipated. Like a resume or job interview, talking up your terrific traits isn’t always an easy task.
{an awesome hotdog? i think so!}
As much as I struggled through my own awesomeness, I’ve got to admit that it may have helped me feel pretty fantastic. It made me take a real look at the work I’ve contributed over the past year and realize that I am indeed an excellent employee. I find it all too easy to get down on myself when I have a bad day or when I feel like I could have done more but when I have to sum up my success, I realize that I’m proud of my achievements and that I’ve contributed an awful lot to my office. I’m personable, organized, dependable, always ready for the next challenge, and have stepped in to help others on countless occasions. I may blush at the idea of being boastful or bragging but being able to admit I’m wonderful just did wonders for my confidence. Not to toot my own horn (okay, all I did was toot my own horn!) but I was able to write quite a bit about myself and that’s got to make a girl feel pretty good, right?! I hope we can all see the good in ourselves, even on days when no one asks.

Why are you wonderful to work with? What makes you more confident?

I really like this post! I don't think it's bad at all to acknowledge that you are good at something if you are!!!I'm good to work with because I get along with everyone, I'm not in to office drama and I pretty much rock at doing my job well. So there ya go ;)

Probably one of the best pictures I've ever seen ((the weiner one! ha))

I would like to think I am a good person to work with for many reasons but mostly because I am a good listener and a very hard worker. I hate disappointing people and I always want to do my best when it comes to my job. Not saying I always DO. But I will most certainly always try :)

This is such a great reminder that we don't acknowledge ourselves nearly enough (especially in professional work environements!) I think maybe it's a female thing, sometimes. :)

Oh, the first pic totally made me smile.

Self-promotion is definitely something I have trouble with. Feels so ticklish to me to compliment myself to other people. A compliment from someone else boosts my confidence nicely though!

I think this is a good exercise- certainly thinking about it is healthy for one's overall improvement!

i am excactly the same, especially when writing my resume and having to go on about how amazing i am and what fantastic skills i have. i found it really helpful to have other people have a look at it just in case i missed something :)

i think i'm great to work with because you can always guarantee that i'll happily have a chat with you!

I'm a perfectionist.. so I cannot leave anything done half-assed. I know that if I've completed something, I've done a good job.. however, I doubt myself SO much. I hope everything goes over well for you!

That's great that you got a chance to talk yourself up! It's nice to get to say nice things about ourselves without sounding overly confident. :)

I love working with others, and am a great team player. Although I may not be graduating with a 4.0 I know that I'm a huge people person and I possess the motivation to succeed at whatever I put my mind to :)

I really hate the end of the year assessments but reading this post has made me feel a little better about it for the upcoming one. I know I get things done fast and on time which many people appreciate.

Yay! Good for you! I never liked those year end self reviews either. Or having to write them for fellow coworkers. In the end they must all mesh together and sound the same, but it IS a good practice in remembering why you are awesome (who even cares what they think, except for that raise said "they" give you :) ) But feeling awesome MAKES you awesome and an even more awesome person to work with.

Let's see. I'm positive, patient, a good teacher and motivator. I'm often known to help coworkers our of working ruts. Which is pretty beneficial for everybody involved :) So there you have it!

We have to write self-assessments at the end of every semester for school... at first it seemed like a waste of time but it really does help you determine your strengths!

After we write them I always feel really good about my positive attitude and patient care in our clinic :)
