be my valentine

Ted’s Two Minute Date on How I Met Your Mother is one of the sweetest displays of affection I have ever seen. Fitting dinner, dessert, a movie and flowers into two minutes to take advantage of a schedule too busy for dating makes my heart melt. (Yours, too, right?) And while not many of us have the chance to date a TV character like Ted, I think there is so much to be said about someone who can take a simple idea and make it special, whether it’s remembering your favourite flower, recreating an important date or just knowing what will make you smile. With the thousands of dates planned for tonight, chances are some will be better than others and while they all may not be action packed or overly adorable, memories will most likely be made.
Everyone has their own idea of the perfect date. My idea of the perfect date doesn’t mean the most expensive restaurant or the most elaborate plans but, instead, it’s the simple things that go the furthest, the things that so obviously took time and love to plan that end up meaning the most. I’m lucky enough to have a husband who treats me to plenty of romantic evenings and doesn’t disappoint when it comes to date nights. My surprise picnic in the park or the time he took me as a tourist all around our town certainly stick out in my mind as perfectly planned outings with the one I love. But what sticks with me the most is how much our dates make me feel special, it’s how meaningful they are and how I can always tell that he was thinking of me throughout it all. No matter what we do or where we go, it’s the little things that let me know I’m loved. So no matter who you’re with, where you’re going or whether or not you celebrate Valentine’s Day, I hope love is in the air!

What’s your idea of the perfect date? Got any bad date stories?

I'm single and I still love V-day. It's a day of love, chocolate, flowers, and cupcakes--what on earth is not to love about it, ha! The best date I've ever been on was a walk on Ocean Beach that turned into 2+ hours, followed by delicious wine and conversation. Oh, and a guy took me sailing on a first date once! I wasn't so into HIM, but it was a delightful date. haha.

how i met your mother is so good, and that's definitely one of the best scenes. my best date was stargazing in a field with candles, covers, and a bottle of wine.

aw, so sweet! we always tease my mister that he's just like ted. he's an architect, is constantly correcting us on everything, and makes terrible grandpa jokes. :)

My perfect date was one and a half year ago when Mr. Starlight drove me to Venice. It was a lovely sunny day and this is also the day when he became Mr. Starlight... :)

While it's not a date, i felt loved yesterday not because of gifts of chocolate and flowers and the usual V day gifts but because he made the effort to go to the bank for me, have a statement printed with my address on it so that I could set up my phone contract.
I know that doesn't sound terribly romantic at all but it was going to be nearly impossible for me to get to the bank before it closed and I didn't ask him to do this, he just rang me and told me he had it ready for me.
After 10 years, things like that make me smile a lot more than flowers :)

Hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day!

I like that- it's about how he makes you feel!

John and I once tried to plan a "perfect date"-what a total disaster! In the end, I think our favorite thing is just to curl up and enjoy each other! Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy belated love day honey! My perfect date would be a picnick in the park followed by a movie in the cinema! :D

I'm trying to decide if I've had any truly BAD date stories and I don't think I have. Maybe I'm lucky?

I'm single and I've embraced it this Valentine's day, however I have had my fair share of HORRIBLE bad dates. I even talk about them on my What not to say/do on a date segments. If you ever get bored check them out for a good laugh!

What a beautiful post. I agree- the thought and effort put into a date is what makes it so special.
It melts my heart when my husband takes the time to do things like that.
Hope your day was fun!

My husband and I participated in a blogging challenge called 10 Weeks, 10 Dates this past summer and one of them was a luau themed night at home...that was our favorite of the 10 that we chose to do! Luau themed food and drinks and outfits...it was quiet and romantic but totally different from our usual nights on the couch :)
